MILE AND A SIXTEENTH
(AND CHANGE)
Eighteen 12" x 12" panels
The original is available for $15,000.
This piece depicts an entire horse race from start to finish,
from the perspective of inside rail, outside fence,
head on, etc. From the horses loading into the gate to pulling
up after the wire. I invite any potential collectors to be creative
with the format.
The
idea originated from the purchase of the canvas panels. I wanted
to have four across, four down (16). Because the company I ordered
the panels from required three to an order,
I ended up with 18.
In
racing terms, horsemen and women speak of times in racing and
workouts in slang. Thus, they'll say, "he worked in 48 and
change", rather than give the exact time in fifths or hundredths
of a second. So, when I ended up with 18 panels instead of 16,
the two extra panels became the "and change". I made
the "change" part of the
horse
pulling
up and
intentionally separate from the rest of the piece.
